Proficiency Based Progress: Building Student Ownership of Learning

Proficiency based progress lends itself to initially build learner ownership and reflection. Students are encouraged to review the I can statements and the learning expectations for the lessons and units of study and consider where they are as a learner.  Part of the encouraged feedback cycle is to have a student voice component based on reflection of progress.  Encourage your students to ask for clear learning expectations and proficiency tables for their work and take time to assess and reflect with them on progress in learning.  Learning should be student-centered and focused on co-constructed feedback among the learner and the educator. The intent of this school year is to have students taking a higher ownership in their learning. Ask your students about I can statements and learning expectations after school each day.
