Balloon Parade

The 4th and 5th grade students at John Shields Elementary participated in a week-long Thanksgiving STEM challenge. During their STEM block, students learned the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and studied the numbers and science behind the parade. Throughout the week, students applied reading comprehension strategies, math problem solving, and the engineering design process. They were challenged to create their own balloon design for our parade using balloons, tape, construction paper, and markers. The 4th and 5th graders completed their challenge with their own Thanksgiving balloon parade for the rest of the school to enjoy.
