Information Writing Reel

Mrs. Hay’s second grade class visited the Information Writing Reel that is displayed in the John Stewart Library. The inquiry lesson started when Mrs. Hay asked, “What do you notice?” Students collaborated, reflected, and noted something they would like to try in their writing.

The second graders noticed the use of details in both student writing and in illustrations. They noticed the use of transition words, headings, craft moves (talking to the reader), elaboration and the importance of making our writing clear so others can understand what we have to say.

After interviewing Mrs. Hay, she said, “My class had so much fun and I think it'll be fun to go back throughout the unit as we become more familiar with informational writing.”
