Fifth grade students at John Shields demonstrated great leadership by leading book chats after completing an award book in the Rebecca Caudill and Bluestem Reading Challenge. Book discussions increase students’ engagement, help them take responsibility for their learning, prompt higher-level thinking, and encourage them to build and share knowledge.
