AP Environmental Science students participated in the Field Studies camping trip last week. We began our trip at Lake La-Aqua-Na State Park in Lena, Illinois, where we released 142 rainbow trout we raised from eggs in our classroom since November. It was a continuation of our ongoing partnership with Trout in the Classroom Organization and the Illinois DNR.
From then on, we headed up north to Governor Dodge State Park in Dodgeville, WI, where we spent four days camping: hiking, outdoor cooking, enjoying a fire and s'mores each night. We visited Nevin State Fish Hatchery (operated by Wisconsin DNR) as well as Cave of the Mounds National Landmark. Wisconsin DNR relies on our biodiversity data from Governor Dodge SP, unfortunately due to rainy night forecasts we were unable to complete our insect collection. We will try again next year!
