Kaneland Harter Middle School’s KORT Award is a merit based recognition given to
students who distinguish themselves in service to their community. The Knights of the
Round Table distinction is achieved by earning a total of 30 hours, devoted to at least
two separate service activities, over the course of a student’s KHMS career. The award,
a four-by-four KORT shield patch of athletic construction, can be sewn onto clothing
or displayed and is given to students after attaining the hours required. This shield
signifies them as members of a dedicated group that chooses to devote a significant
portion of their time to helping others.
In order for service hours to be recognized, students must keep track of their timethemselves for each activity and provide the necessary information on the KORTactivity sheet. The activity sheets will need to be turned in to the school office, MelissaFrankel or Kris Weiss preferably at the end of each quarter to be officially counted. However, it is suggested that students turn in the activity sheets as soon as theactivity is completed so that they are not lost. The final turn in date for all hours forthe current school year is May 15th. These hours may be performed in conjunctionwith church, scouts, or other organized projects. However, any hours used to satisfyrequirements for badges or other programs may not be counted. Hours will also beaccepted from service organizations that provide their own log sheet, as long as it isaccompanied by the supervising adult’s signature and phone number.
We feel privileged to have the support of the KHMS PTO in helping us to offer thisreward. This partnership demonstrates our combined commitment to encourage ourstudents to give back to the Kaneland community.
