Kaneland IgKnight Personalized Learning Academy Progress Update
Planning for the fall, 2023 opening of Kaneland IgKnight Personalized Learning Academy continues to progress.
This past fall we hosted three Community Information Nights to share philosophical and logistical information regarding Kaneland IgKnight Personalized Learning Academy, as well as to provide families with an opportunity to tour the Academy space. All three nights were well attended by students and families. Additional tours are being facilitated on an individual basis for families who were unable to attend one of the fall events.
IgKnight Academy enrollment was open from October, 2022, through December, 2022. Upon request from families, a waiting list was established for current 2nd graders interested in attending IgKnight in the fall of 2023. At the close of enrollment, space allowed us to accommodate all interested incoming 3rd graders. There are currently 107 students enrolled for the 2023-24 school year, 44 of whom will be 3rd-5th graders and 63 of whom will be 6th-8th graders.
Hiring of IgKnight Academy staff has begun. Of the 9 certified teaching positions, we have filled 6 with current Kaneland staff members, and 1 with an outside candidate. Additionally, we will be hiring 1 non-certified secretarial position and 1 school nurse position. The teachers have begun collaborating around the curriculum and are eager to continue their planning through the spring and summer.
Current operations-related work involves identifying bus routes through the transportation department, coordinating lunch times and food options with the food services department, and continuing to update learning spaces with the technology and maintenance departments.
We are close to solidifying plans to allow our registered students to begin building relationships with both their IgKnight teachers and classmates throughout the spring. We will be sharing this information with our registered families in the upcoming weeks, as part of our on-going communications.
